Privacy Policy — Goji Reader
Goji Reader ("the app") is built by Narrow Road Studios LLC to be private by default. We don't run ads, we don't sell data, and we don't require an account.
What the app stores on your device
- Your library and reading data — downloaded book texts, reading progress, speed-training settings, and app preferences are stored only on your device. They are never uploaded to our servers.
- Downloaded chapter audio (premium) — audio files are cached on your device so they play offline.
Deleting the app deletes all of this data. You can also clear cached books and audio from Settings at any time.
What leaves your device
- Book search and downloads — searching the catalog sends your search terms to Gutendex (gutendex.com), a public index of Project Gutenberg books, and downloads book text from Project Gutenberg mirrors. These are ordinary web requests; we do not attach any identity to them.
- Anonymous session (premium audio) — to generate chapter audio, the app signs in anonymously to our backend (Supabase). This creates a random identifier not linked to your name, email, or any personal information.
- Chapter text for audio generation (premium) — when you request audio for a chapter, the public-domain chapter text is sent to our server and to xAI's text-to-speech service to produce the audio. Generated audio is cached on our server so each chapter only needs to be generated once, for all users. No personal data accompanies these requests.
- Purchases — premium purchases are processed by Apple's App Store or Google Play. We use RevenueCat to validate purchases and manage entitlements; RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID and purchase receipt data, never your payment details (those stay with Apple/Google). What we don't do
- No user accounts, no email collection, no contact-list or location access.
- No advertising, no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
- No sale or sharing of personal information with data brokers.
Children
The app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. Book content is the unedited text of public-domain works from Project Gutenberg; some classic literature may contain themes appropriate for older readers.
Data retention and deletion
We hold no personal data about you to delete. The anonymous backend identifier is used only to authorize audio requests and can be reset by reinstalling the app. Cached chapter audio on our servers is derived from public-domain text and contains no user data.
Changes to this policy
If our data practices change, we will update this page and the effective date above.
